This is quite a fascinating documentary - especially given what science knows 60 years later - about how the principles of aerodynamics were applied to enable aircraft to travel ever faster. It investigates the post-400 mph factors that impact on the structural integrity of the machines, and using animation demonstrates the difficulties faced by engineers and technicians. It explains just how sound and shock waves function - explaining that there is not a consistent speed of sound; it varies depending of the altitude and temperature. This all impacts on the ability of aircraft to fly safely at enhanced speeds. The science is largely beyond me, but the rather simple presentation style and narration is quite engaging and educational for those of us who consider aircraft merely another place to have a drink or a sleep (or both!).
